What is the difference between " Training"and "Development"

Training and development are often referred to together, but the two terms have an important distinction. Training is specific for an individual’s current job, while development is all about long term growth beyond a specific role.

People with a skill or knowledge gap often ask for training to become better in their current role, while development requires larger, two-way conversations about personal goals, passions, and progressions.

Short Term vs. Long Term:

  • Training is not longterm.A conference explaining how to use an Excel application in class or the procedure for returning a product could be the goal of the training session.
  • The goal of development is longterm application. That is, a plan that is suggested to HR managers and is anticipated to be successful over an extended period of time.
  • The Company is working to develop professionals for the next level of responsibility through this ongoing process.

Job position Vs Professional career:

  • Training is intended for a certain position.
  • It aims to equip professionals with knowledge and abilities while taking into consideration the task they will be performing for the Company. Training is position-specified.
  • The focus of the development is on establishing a successful professional career.
  • To bring out the best in every professional inside the organization is the aim of this.
  • Recognizing and enhancing their abilities in domains where they can advance with ease.

Specific objectives vs. Open objectives:

  • The training imparts new protocols implemented by the Organization in a precise and well defined manner.
  • Developmental goals are always far more inclusive and might include any kind of
  • knowledge or ability.
  • Development is less concreted, which often focuses on philosophical issues, changing habits, and improving skills

Group vs. Individual:

  • An initiative created by the organization is called training.
  • Training is conducted by a professional in the relevant field.
  • Employees must adhere to guidelines during training activities, and training courses determine what kind of tools should be utilized, for example.
  • In most cases, instruction is given in groups.Individualized development plans are implemented, with the employee bearing final accountability.
  • Lessons from a tutor are not the most important thing to concentrate on; rather, the professional must focus on his or her own self-learning and advancement.
  • In order to acquire a skill, training is typically a brief process that involves supervision through a number of stages.

Typically, training is targeted towards a certain task or job position and is provided to all organization personnel.
